GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- High Point University's  president  is addressing the accusations that a student plotted to shoot up the university and kill students.

Paul Steber, 19, had a first appearance in court Wednesday after police say they found guns in his possession on campus.

President Dr. Nido Qubein, who has served a president since 2005, sent a message via YouTube addressing parents, students and other people a part of the university.

"I come to you today with a heavy heart in my 15 years on this campus. We've never experienced a situation like this: a young man, making a really bad choice," he said.

He went on to praise the response to the incident. Students turned in Steber, reporting he had guns in his room and police later seized two guns.

He is charged with have weapons on a school property and is being held under $2 million bond. The private university has more than 5,000 students.
