DALLAS, N.C. -- Residents in the town of Dallas are cooling off now that the power is back on.

  • Town officials say a transformer was malfunctioning
  • Residents were stuck in heat overnight and into Saturday afternoon
  • Several businesses were closed

Town officials say a malfunctioning transformer knocked the power out a little before 11 p.m. Friday night. Residents were stuck in sweltering heat overnight and well into Saturday afternoon.

This caused several businesses to close and traffic to build at intersections as residents tried to desperately find somewhere to keep cool. The Dallas Fire Department also set up a cooling station for those trying to escape the heat.

“All these red lights out and all the police everywhere, all the buildings are closed. It reminds me of when the rapture takes place. This is the way it’s going to be really,” Deborah Sanders, a resident, said.

Town officials say the power was fully restored by 2 p.m. on Saturday.
