HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- A gymnast from Auburn suffered a gruesome injury, which many are calling one of the worst in sports history, while performing a floor routine during a competition in Baton Rouge on Friday.

Samantha Cerio, from Huntersville, North Carolina, announced she would also be hanging up her grips and "leaving the chalk behind" in light of the injury to her legs.

According to Auburn's website, the meet came to a halt and Cerio was carted off the floor.

The team's head coach, Jeff Graba, posted on Twitter saying that Cerio suffered two dislocated knees with multiple torn ligaments.

Graba also mentioned that Cerio is set to undergo surgery Monday afternoon.

The video of the injury itself is quite graphic; however, it can be viewed here.
