MONROE, N.C. -- The Union County Republican Party held its convention on Saturday.

  • The deadline for candidate filing in the ninth congressional district race is March 15

The Union County delegates elected new officers and discussed the state of the GOP in Union County.

At the forefront of that conversation was the ninth congressional district race. Some of the candidates were there to appeal to potential voters.

The meeting focused on getting Republicans on the same page to try to win the congressional seat during the special election.

"We're a little bruised and beat up. We've got to get back to core voters and to those that are disenfranchised from the system and remind them who we are at our core," chairman Dan Barry said.

The deadline for candidate filing in the ninth congressional district race is March 15.
