CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- 20 people in Charlotte were sworn in as new citizens this Independence Day.

  • 20 people became U.S. citizens in Charlotte
  • 14,000 around the country will become citizens between June 28 and July 10
  • Citizens say they consider the U.S. home

The naturalization ceremony included people from all over the world including Burma, Denmark, Rraq and Vietnam.

"I consider home of course here," Najwa Alchaar who is from Syria said. "I feel loyal to here, the U.S."

14,000 people around the country will become new citizens in naturalization ceremonies between June 28 and July 10.

"It's a good feeling so I feel proud I made the decision to become an American, so now a new stage of my life is coming, so I'm excited," said Eduardo Prego who is from Guatemala.

The ceremony was held at the Charlotte Museum of History.
