A suspect was shot and killed Friday afternoon outside the Greensboro police headquarters after authorities say they set fire to a patrol car and assaulted an officer.
The shooting happened just before 3:15 p.m., police spokesman Ronald Glenn said in a news release.
During a news conference, Greensboro Police Chief Brian James said the suspect set fire to a police vehicle in the parking lot and assaulted a responding officer.
That's when James said three officers fired their weapons, killing the suspect. The assaulted officer was transported to a local hospital with injuries.
Roads surrounding the downtown police station were closed off for several hours during the investigation. The area has since reopened.
Authorities have not yet identified the suspect or officers involved in Friday's incident.
