SAN ANTONIO – A group of first responders made a stop in San Antonio Sunday morning to gather support for El Paso victims and fellow first responders who responded to the deadly shooting that killed more than 20 people.

"We get forgotten, what we go through. We’re not just one event though. We’re many events. We go through this on our job every single day," said emergency medical technician Michael Gomez.

The group said they're on a "Ride to Heal Our Brothers and Sisters." The six organizers say they are making stops in Austin, Houston, Dallas, and other cities as they make their way to their final stop in El Paso on Friday.

"We’re all one state. We’re going to go there shake their hands and let them know we stand behind them." -- Houston Firefighter Paul Chalk.

At each stop, they're asking for people, especially fellow first responders, to take a moment to write a note to the first responders in El Paso.

"When we lose someone in any kind of event, especially a mass shooting, we leave a piece of our hearts behind. These signatures show strength, they show support," said Gomez.

The caravan welcomed locals at the San Antonio Fire Department training academy on the city’s West Side for a few hours before continuing their journey to El Paso.
