SAN ANTONIO -- Bexar County leaders are laying out a plan to fix problems at the jail.

  • Jail found to be out of compliance in a few areas
  • Sheriff's office has submitted proposed solutions
  • Plans to pass inspection expected to be in place soon

Sheriff Javier Salazar said the Adult Detention Center was found to be out of compliance in a few areas.

The sheriff's office said it has submitted its proposed solutions and appointed a new person to be in charge of leading the way to address compliance issues. Deputy Chief Avery Walker has been with the Bexar County Sherriff’s Office for 30 years and has been promoted to jail administrator.

Salazar said they expect to share those plans to pass inspection soon. Last year, the jail came under scrutiny when it failed inspection following the escape of three homicide suspects.

They have seen several escape attempts and wrongly-released inmates in the past year.
