SAN ANTONIO – An 19-year-old inmate was placed on life support due to suffering an apparent medical episode at the Adult Detention Center on Thursday.
- Pronounced dead Friday morning
- Investigation pending as part of Sandra Bland Act
- Deputy discovered inmate unresponsive
Joshua Andrew Miranda was pronounced dead by medical staff at the Baptist Medical Center at 5:40 a.m. on Friday.
Pending the outcome of the autopsy, a law enforcement agency will be appointed to oversee the investigation as part of the Sandra Bland Act.
Miranda had been in BCSO custody since January 6, awaiting indictment for an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.
On Thursday at 12:18 p.m., a deputy who was conducting an observation check in the ADC, discovered Miranda who was unresponsive.
The San Antonio Fire Department arrived at the ADC, relieved detention medical staff, and began performing life-saving measures.
Miranda was transported to the Baptist Medical Center in critical condition.
