- Torres charged with tampering with evidence in King Jay Davila case
Angie Torres, who is charged with tampering with evidence in the case, on January 9 was assaulted in a bathroom.
The office said the three inmates responsible for the attack were placed in emergency management intensive supervision. Torres choose to be placed in general population prior to the assault. She has subsequently been placed in protective custody.
The incident is under investigation. The extent of Torres’s injuries have not been disclosed.
The office also reported that Beatrice Sampayo, mother to suspect Christopher Davila, was spat on by an inmate as she was being escorted from her cell. Sampayo declined to press charges.
Police believe Torres, Sampayo and Davila staged a kidnapping to cover the death of the child. Following an intensive search that lasted several days, Davila, the child’s father, led police to the body of the child, who was wrapped in a blanket in a black backpack.
