SAN ANTONIO – During a press briefing at 6:15 p.m. Monday, San Antonio Police Department Chief William McManus said investigators believe the story concerning the kidnapping of 8-month-old King Jay Davila was concocted to cover up foul play.

About 7 p.m. Friday, Christopher Davila drove to an Exxon gas station. He left his vehicle running and a woman drove off with it. Christopher Davila told police that the child was in the vehicle. That vehicle was later located at a park.

On Monday, McManus said new information has led his department to dismiss that claim. He said the child was never in the vehicle.
In addition, the woman who drove off with the car and was caught on surveillance has been taken into custody on unrelated charges, McManus said. It’s believed the woman is a cousin to the parents.

McManus said the whereabouts of King Jay Davila are still unknown and he urged anyone with information to come forward.
San Antonio police and firefighters searched Rodriguez Park, where the vehicle was located, Sunday. McManus described that as due diligence.
