AUSTIN, Texas — Ahead of the 87th legislative session, the Texas State Preservation Board has announced the Texas Capitol will reopen to the public on Monday, January 4.

The building has been closed to the public since the outset of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. The grounds only reopened to the public recently.

There will be restrictions in place, however.

According to the State Preservation Board the building will be open to the public from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will be closed Saturdays and Sunday for cleaning.

The public may only enter through the north door.

COVID-19 testing prior to entry is recommended and will be provided at no charge on the north plaza. Data will not be collected there.

A facial mask will be required at all times in the building.

Social distancing will be required and public visitor capacity limits will be enforced.

No public tours will be available. There will be no group or special event space made available.

The legislative session gets underway on Tuesday, January 12.
