ARLINGTON, Texas – More than 80 units and homes were destroyed or severely damaged following Tuesday’s storm in Arlington, Texas, according to the American Red Cross.

The organization says it provided emergency housing for several families and is also providing holiday meals for almost 25 of those families.

“Caseworkers will continue to work with residents to provide assistance and help connect them with additional community resources,” said Red Cross in a written statement.

The Red Cross has had to adapt to caring for those impacted by storms over the course of the pandemic. Over the summer it put a call out for additional volunteers ahead of what turned into an incredibly active hurricane season.

Tuesday’s storm sent a confirmed EF-2 tornado through Arlington. The National Weather Service says wind speeds peaked at 115 mph and the twister traveled a little over five miles.

Five people were injured from the tornado, which lasted for approximately seven minutes, according to NWS.
