AUSTIN, Texas – Political newcomer Donna Imam, a Democrat, is trying to unseat incumbent Rep. John Carter, R-Round Rock.
District 31 includes Williamson County north of Austin and goes up to Bell County and is home to Fort Hood. Carter won by only 3 points in 2018 against MJ Hegar, who's now running for U.S. Senate.
Imam is an engineer and spoke with Capital Tonight’s Karina Kling about her first foray into politics, the issues she wants to tackle if elected and taking on a long-time Texas lawmaker.
Imam’s interview is part of a series of candidate conversations Capital Tonight is doing leading up to the November election.
