Cain, who was hospitalized for several weeks with the virus before succumbing to it, was a presidential candidate at one time and was a pizza mogul.

Prior to his death, Cain attended a rally for President Donald Trump in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which largely eschewed social distancing and facial masks.

Monday’s tweet included a link to an article by the conservative news website Western Journal. The article concerns recent information released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that states COVID-19 was the only factor in 6 percent of deaths attributed to the virus. The rest of them, the report states, also involved pre-existing conditions.

The CDC report has been misconstrued by some as a case of the health agency now downplaying the threat of the virus. However, a person with respiratory illness or another condition may become much more ill or die if COVID-19 is added to the mix.
