AUSTIN, Texas — The greatest basketball player in St. Stephen's Episcopal School’s history will forever have his place in the gym.
- Played at St. Stephen’s for 3 years
- Entered NBA draft in 2017
- Plays for Brooklyn Nets
The high school retired Jarrett Allen’s number 35 jersey on December 18.
Allen played three years for the Spartans and led them to two state titles. He then went on to the University of Texas at Austin for one season.
Allen entered the NBA draft in 2017. He is now in his third year with the Brooklyn Nets.
“When I was here, I was about a sophomore and I didn’t really think the whole NBA thing was possible,” said Allen. “So I asked our athletic director, ‘what do I have to do to get my jersey retired?’ because I saw one of the baseball players had it. And he said I gotta make it to the NBA, and I made it.”
Allen was able to make it back to Austin because it was his day off from the Nets. The next day, the Nets played the Spurs in San Antonio.
