AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas is now home to the fifth most powerful supercomputer in the world.

On Tuesday, the university dedicated the new super computer, Frontera, which is the fastest supercomputer housed at a U.S. university. Frontera has been operational since June and has already assisted scientists in their research.
The computer was funded by the National Science Foundation and cost $60 million. The project was announced in 2018 and was built earlier this year.

The University of Texas is also home to another supercomputer, Stampede2.
School officials say the supercomputer will be used for simulation and modeling, artificial intelligence, and data analytics.
