AUSTIN, Texas – A new app is coming to the University of Texas at Austin with the goal of bringing an extra level of safety to the campus.

The LifeSafe app will allow students access to emergency services at the push of a button. A "SafeWalk" feature will allow students walking on campus to be tracked by virtual escorts. They'll also have the ability to report suspicious activity through the app as well as have access to all emergency campus resources.

In a Tweet Monday morning, UT Police Chief David Carter said the Live Safe App would be available to UT Austin students by fall 2019 classes.

Officials are still discussing details about how to roll out the technology to new and existing students and staff. They plan to have the app ready before the fall semester.
