AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Department of Transportation is breaking ground on a new construction project coming to North Austin.
- $24.6 million project
- Estimated completion date: mid-2021
The project will reconstruct the intersections at the I-35 at Parmer Lane and Parmer Lane at Lamar Boulevard.
A diverging diamond intersection over I-35 will be created. TxDOT says this should help alleviate bottlenecking at Parmer Lane.
Changes to the frontage road, the addition of a bypass lane, widening of some roadways, and reconstruction of ramps will all come out of the project.
Improvements to bicycle and pedestrian transportation in the area will also be incorporated.
The estimated completion date for the project is mid-2021 and will cost an estimated $24.6 million.
TxDOT says this project was funded as part of the Texas Clear Lanes Congestion Relief Initiative. There are eight projects along I-35 in Austin that are part of the initiative, four of which are already under construction or have already been completed.
