AUSTIN, Texas – Numerous floodgates are open across the Highland Lakes after last week’s record rain, putting it in the running for the wettest May since World War II.
The Lower Colorado River Authority opened more floodgates over the weekend to ease the water flow after heavy rains.
- Lake Buchanan: One floodgate open
- Inks Lake: Two feet above spillway, no floodgates
- Wirtz Dam/LBJ: Partially opened one floodgate at Wirtz Dam
- Starcke Dam/Marble Falls: Partially opened one floodgate at Starcke Dam
- Mansfield Dam/Lake Travis: Two floodgates open at Mansfield Dam
- Tom Miller Dam/Lake Austin: One floodgate fully open and one floodgate partially open at Tom Miller Dam
- Lake Bastrop: No gate operations at this time
Historically, May is the wettest month of the year. Rain totals have marked 2019 as the 13th wettest May since WWII.
One rain gage in East Austin shows over 11 inches in the past two weeks, most of which has fallen since May 3.
