IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — There’s a new screen printing studio in Irondequoit where you can learn the basics of screen printing. Lake Ontario Press on Culver Rd. in Sea Breeze opened in March and since then has hosted a series of fun and creative screen print workshops to help you get started.
Owner Matt Saxon went from printing t-shirts for friends and fundraisers to selling his own nature inspired designs at shops and festivals around Greater Rochester.
"Everything we do has been primarily Upstate New York designs," said Saxon. "It is one of those kind of natural things I think to make your own brand. Everything I print is something that I am into."
He loves the craft so much that he opened his studio so that the community can come in and take classes. You can learn how to push and pull the ink to make your own t-shirts, posters or totes.
"I have been teaching at Flower City Arts Center for a little while, and I just wanted to be able to expand screen printing specific classes," said Saxon. "That is really what I am into obviously. We have an intro class every month a couple times and then one day a month we do something for $5."
The next community print day at Lake Ontario Press is Saturday, Oct. 23. It's a Halloween themed tote of Irondequoit‘s famous ‘Lady in White’. It even glows in the dark.
