Songs from some of the most influential women in music will be performed live in downtown Rochester Saturday. “Lady of Song” is a tribute show to honor the legendary women who changed the music world forever.
Even during rehearsal, you can hear the soul and feel the energy of these talented Rochester female vocalists cast to perform in “Lady of Song.” So just imagine what Saturday’s performance is going to sound like.
Vocalist and entertainer Cinnamon Jones is all about sharing music’s most legendary and powerful female singers with Rochester. That’s why she’s back with a few of her talented friends to belt out of the best of the best.
“Well, this is the best thing that I could put together,” Jones said. “Just grab a bunch of women and have them portray legendary women, and let’s go for it. After that, it just kept going and going and going.”
Jones is a Brooklyn native but has called Rochester home for a while now. The performing arts and its expression and connection to others is very much a part of her.
“This place was packed. I said 'oh my gosh' and they enjoyed the show,” Jones said. “And they are coming back again. So each show is different. You will never see the same show because we have so many legendary, powerful women we need to betray them all.”
Sandra Naro sings in a couple of Rochester bands. She grew up in a super musical family. She’s proud to share the story and the songs of Janis Joplin in “Lady of Song.”
“I got goosebumps,” Naro said. “They are such strong women of that era. They are the greatest. I tell you I get chills. It an honor to sing their songs.”
The show is fun and energetic. What a cast Cinnamon Jones has put together to pay tribute to the best of the best women in music.
“Yes we are going to have a good time,” Jones said. “We are going to take you back and take you forward and we are going to take you to church,” said Jones. “Because we always have to go to church before we leave out of here.”
