Monroe County Board of Elections commissioners on Monday introduced the ExpressVote XL voting machines to use in this year's elections.
Officials say the machines produce paper results and store votes electronically and can run on battery if needed.
"I can tell you these remind me of a lever machine a lot," Monroe County Board of Elections Republican Commissioner Peter Elder said. "And so for voters that remember that experience, the privacy was in the machine. We're losing square footage because of the size of the machines, but we're gaining square footage by losing all those privacy areas you've been sitting at for the last 15 years. That's all going to be gone."
Several public demonstrations are planned before the June primary for voters to familiarize themselves with the new machines.
