Food assistance nonprofit Foodlink will upgrade its headquarters on Mt. Read Boulevard and its community farm on Lexington Avenue.
The $15 million project is underway and expected to take two to three years to complete.
The need for food assistance has only grown since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and Foodlink says this growth is part of how it's responding.
Foodlink's president says buying more food isn't enough.
"Our job is to safely procure, handle, store and re-distribute nearly 30 million pounds of food each year," said Foodlink's president and CEO Julia Tedesco. "The improvements to our facility in the years ahead will help us continue to maintain efficient effective operations, insure safety and our ability to respond to the community."
