Rochester's Genesee Brewery is set to undergo a $50 million modernization project. New York state has also offered a $7 million grant to Genesee's parent company, FIFCO USA, to help with the upgrades. All that money will go toward creating a world class packaging facility.

"It will add some capabilities for innovation and also some capacity for new products," said Mary Beth Popp, vice president of Brand and Corporate Communications for FIFCO USA.

One of those new products that the brewery will package is actually a familiar favorite. Genesee will become to only brewery in the United States to brew and distribute Labatt Blue and Blue Light.

The packaging facility will take around three years to complete. To keep up with growing demand, the brewery plans to hire around 60 people, in addition to the almost 600 workers already employed. Once finished, the new facility will make production faster and smoother.

"It can create about 70% more packages using the same amount of energy and resources as the last facility," said Popp.

It’s not just about faster packaging. The new facility allows the brewery more flexibility in what they're able to produce.

New ideas and changes but still the same great beers customers know and love.
