One of the Rochester area's biggest events is getting some major recognition.

The Lilac Festival has been nominated for USA Today's 10Best Readers Choice Award for the Best Flower Festival in the USA category. Festival organizers are asking for help from the public in securing the top spot.

The free 10-day event showcases Highland Park's more than 500 varieties of blooming lilacs. It's the largest collection of lilacs in North America.

It also features more than 120 musical performances, 300 or more arts and craft vendors, a wide selection of food and drink vendors, local farmers’ market, the Lilac Run and kids' activities.

The festival sees an average of more than 500,000 visitors from across Western and upstate New York, the tri-state area and Canada each year.

The 127th Rochester Lilac Festival will run from May 9 - May 18.
