IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — You shop local and dine local, so how about reading local too? There’s a local author meet and greet happening this Saturday at the Irondequoit Public Library.
“We’ve got a pretty good mix,” said John Scalzo from the Irondequoit Public Library. “There’s going to be some authors of adult books, children’s books, teen books and poetry.”
John Scalzo is the go-to guy to help library patrons feel more connected with where they live and who might be writing about it. He has put together another "Local Author Day." It’s something he started in 2018, but this one is bigger than ever. From poetry to fiction and non-fiction, there will be 40 local authors at the event.
“I got a huge response,” Scalzo said. “Originally we are going to have 20 but they just kept coming. So we are going to put them all over the building and have more than 40. It is just good to put on some kind of event to meet local authors and talk to them about why they write what they write. And maybe even start writing something of their own.”
The Irondequoit Public Library carries all kinds of books written by local authors. Supporting local authors helps keep the local literary scene thriving.
Local Author Day is free and open to the public. It runs on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Irondequoit Public Library.
