As the Mohawk Valley fights to stay positive during flood recovery, there was a nice distraction Friday for those living in Poland.

Students at Poland Central School performed for the veterans in their lives. The school invites them each year ahead of Veterans Day, as a thank you for their service.

The longstanding tradition involves a free breakfast.

An Army National Guard veteran said it's a special treat she enjoys with her grandkids and a good chance to connect with other veterans.

"It brings back memories by seeing other veterans and things and just being recognized for their service. Any branch, anywhere, any place, the service connects us together," said veteran Tracy Murphy.
