The chair of the Herkimer County Legislature was arrested over the weekend and charged with a drug offense.

An Ilion Police Department representative said Robert Hollum, 49, was arrested at approximately 7:45 p.m. Sunday. He was issued appearance tickets for criminal possession of a controlled substance and having an open container in a motor vehicle.

Hollum represents District 4 in the legislature he chairs.

In a statement, Vice Chair Peter Campione said Monday that the legislature "has become aware of an incident" involving "personnel within the county," but said only that the Ilion Police is handling it and that the legislature "will have no further comment on this issue at the time."
