The chair of the Herkimer County Legislature has been arrested for the second time this year, this time for unsafe storage of a firearm.

Robert Hollum, 49, of Mohawk, was arrested Wednesday by New York State Police on a class A misdemeanor charge of failing to store a firearm safely. It stems from a July 18 call in which state police found a car in a ditch, unoccupied, on Warren Road in German Flatts. Police say a .22 caliber long gun and 500 rounds of ammunition could be seen unsecured; both the car and gun are registered to Hollum.

Hollum was issued an appearance ticket; his next court appearance in German Flatts is scheduled for Sept. 30.

Previously, Hollum was arrested in May and charged with a drug offense.
