Organizers of the non-profit Operation Adopt a solider in Wilton are trying to stay positive after a devastating fire. Sunday, a day after flames destroyed much of the building, the founder says they will be up and running again soon.
They hope to get a construction trailer so they can start preparing packages to send to soldiers overrseas. Founder and chairman Cliff Seguin is also asking for help for the family who lived in the apartment behind the office that was also badly damaged.
"So if there is any way the community could come together, and help them people out, that you would help us out too. We can replace whatever we got, but they need the help," Seguin said.
There were no injuries in Saturday’s fire, but the charity is providing more information about the extent of the damage. The building on Route 50 is a total loss, including more than 200 packages and donations marked for troops overseas in Afghanistan.
The building was also home to an apartment and a land management company, both of which sustained some damage. Leaders at Adopt-A-Soldier said they're heartbroken.
"I'm devastated right now,” Seguin said Saturday. “We've been in this building since 2005. This is the building that we've always known and had. This is where we do all our packages and we lost everything."
Donations to help rebuild the Adopt a Soldier offices can be made here or here.
