With Election Day just two weeks away, current Troy City Council President Carmella Mantello took to Facebook after her opponent, David Bissember, canvassed with a mailer she says is misleading to voters.

Mantello says the mailer is missing a word that makes it look like he is already council president, saying the issue with the flyers may seem petty, but two weeks ahead of the election, she is very concerned. Bissember says he sees it as a non-issue. He says he thinks voters know who he is and what he's running for.

Both Bissember and Mantello agree that public safety, quality of life and revitalization across the city, not just in downtown Troy, are important to them.

"Revitalizating the neighborhood is number one for me, but you can't revitalize the neighborhood if it's not clean," Mantello said.

"We need to do more to enhance the quality of life across the neighborhoods," Bissember said, "because that is what we're hearing every day from regular folks all across the city."

One of those quality-of-life improvements both say has to happen before next summer is the city pool issue.

One issue the candidates didn't line up on was housing. Mantello says there is affordable housing in the city, while Bissember thinks there are not enough affordable places to live.

The major issue neither of them brought up: making Troy a sanctuary city, a very contentious issue. Bissember supports the idea and Mantello is against it.
