Erika joined the Spectrum News Capital newsroom as a reporter in December 2018. Erika grew up in western Massachusetts in the Springfield area, but after living in New York City for more than three years, upstate feels like home. She's thrilled to be so close to family and longtime friends in the state she loves, just a few hours from Manhattan!
Erika's path to journalism is a storied one that started with discovering a passion for news and sports while living in New York City, and trying to make her way to the Great White Way. Broadway never quite happened, but journalism found her. When she returned to Massachusetts, she worked as a freelance sports reporter for several years at the Springfield Republican, where she covered high school football and basketball, AHL hockey and G-League basketball. Erika also had the chance to tell the amazing stories of Olympian Gail Devers and the first woman to ever run the Boston Marathon, Kathrine Switzer, when they visited western Massachusetts. More so, Erika worked for Bruins Daily, an independent media company that exclusively covers the Boston Bruins, where she co-anchored and produced a weekly web series about the NHL hockey team. Most recently, Erika was a reporter, fill-in anchor, and fill-in sports anchor at KSFY-TV in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The news never stops, but sometimes journalists get a break. When Erika's not reporting, she's an avid hiker and loves the beach. She also runs a small handmade sign making and home décor business. In her spare time, she loves to watch her favorite teams — the New England Patriots, the Boston Bruins and the Boston Red Sox — and is still in denial about Big Papi's retirement.
