Claire Hutton celebrated her 19th birthday this past weekend. As a teenager, the Bethlehem graduate has already won the 2022 CONCACAF Women’s U-17 Championship and a bronze medal at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, and made numerous starts in the NWSL with the KC Current.

“I know, I was talking to someone about that, too, and one more year of teenage years as a professional is pretty cool,” said Hutton, who just returned to Kansas City after spending some time back home in the Capital Region.

The midfielder for the Current recently checked off another milestone in her young career. This month, Hutton was one of 24 players U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Emma Hayes named to the 2025 Futures Camp. The under-23 National Team prospects will train in tandem with the senior team at the Inter Miami CF’s Florida Blue Training Center starting Friday.

“Just having this opportunity to play in front of Emma (Hayes) and the other coaching staff and just being able to show who I am on and off the field, because that's a big priority for them, just knowing you're a good person first and a good player,” Hutton said. “It’s just truly incredible and I'm so grateful for the opportunity.”

Hutton will also be joined by Current teammate Michelle Cooper for the Futures camp. It’s another step forward for someone who has ambitions to one day play for the U.S. Women’s Senior National Team.

“I try to remind myself I'm here for a reason,” she said. “And I want more than where I am right now. I want to keep growing. I want to keep developing. And these are the moments that will make me at the end of my career.”

It’ll be a busy month for Hutton as she also prepares for her sophomore campaign in Kansas City. She was a regular in the starting 11 for the Current in her rookie season. Mainly in a defensive role, Hutton made 19 starts in 22 appearances, registered one goal and was named a finalist for NWSL Rookie of the Year Award.

“Last year was great. It was fun. But that doesn't mean I'm going to be given anything this year,” Hutton said. “So it was very enjoyable. But there's still a lot to be done.”

Heading into her second season with the Current, she’s hoping to be more involved in the attacking this year. But more importantly, Hutton wants to help win a championship, especially after falling in the semifinals to top seed Orlando Pride back in November.

“Whatever the team needs, I'll be there for it,” she said. “Whether it is continuing to hold the defense or if it is getting more into the final third.”
