Parents in the Guilderland Central School District are voicing concerns over student safety.

Guilderland’s superintendent and school board members faced criticism Tuesday night over the handling of one student’s return after making what’s been referred to as a "kill list" of around 20 students in February.

That student was removed from school, arrested and charged with making a threat of mass harm.

Six parents and one student at Tuesday’s meeting shared their frustration over not being notified that student would be returning to school this year.

Superintendent Marie Wiles said that student and staff safety is the district’s top priority.

“The District has a detailed safety plan with the purpose of protecting both the returning student and all other students and staff," Wiles said. "While we cannot fully share the specific details of the plan, it does provide, in part, increased supervision by adults.”

Spectrum News 1 spoke to one parent whose child was on the list. She said they deserve specific details about that plan.

“It would be nice to have some reassurance and some peace of mind knowing that we’re sending our child to a school and that they are being safe and protected,” Deanna Cornelius said.

In a statement, the Guilderland Central School District said by law, it must protect student privacy.
