Throughout the week, there’s been extra juice at CBA’s practices.

“Every single snap, it’s go, go, go. No stopping at all,” said Donald Jones, a junior quarterback and defensive back. “Every single rep, you have to sprint everywhere. You hear [head coach Bob Burns] yelling 'right now.' It’s high demand.”

Jones and his teammates know what’s at stake this Friday night, and are making sure to take care of the little things now.

“We’re looking to go over there and do the same that they did last year to us,” Jones said.

The defending Section 2 Class AA champs are traveling across town to take on Shaker (1-1). Last year’s 19-13 loss in the regular season is still motivating CBA (2-0).

“There’s not much to say. Everyone has to work hard,” said senior Chuck Volans. “It’s that team camaraderie that brings us together, and makes us want to win.”

Through two games, the undefeated Brothers have allowed just six points. Head coach Bob Burns said they will have to play responsibility football and keep their eyes in the right spots this Friday, facing a Blue Bison team that’s currently averaging nearly 40 points a game.

“We’re not going to turn the ball over because that will crush us too,” Burns said. “We’re going to have to tackle and block.”

Now in his second season at CBA, Burns says having a full offseason has helped the team develop strong relationships. He says that’s crucial in adverse moments, like last week at Burnt Hills.

“It’s always good to have that experience and have guys that have been through things where they have to fight through it,” Burns said. “Things don’t come easy and you really have to grind to get the win.”

Burns says they’re still figuring out their true identity, but are moving in the right direction. He hopes to see that continue at Shaker Friday night.

“That’s where it becomes important, where everybody steps up and does their new jobs that they have to perform to make us win,” Volans said.

“It’s definitely going to come down to the fourth quarter,” Jones said. “It’s going to be a high-impact game. It’s going to be intense.”

The game kicks off 7 p.m. Friday night on Spectrum News 1.
