A group of protesters clashed with police officers outside the Albany Police South Station following a march across the city on Wednesday evening.
Protesters hurled bottles at police officers and one broke a window of Albany Police South Station, where the crowd had gathered, according to Steven Smith, public information officer for the Albany Police Department.

At one point, police appeared to spray an unknown orange substance at the crowd, many of whom had been chanting "Daunte Wright," the name of the 20-year-old Black man who was fatally shot by a police officer in Minnesota over the weekend, according to a video taken at the scene.
The protest started Wednesday afternoon, when a crowd of 50 to 60 people marched from Townsend Park to Western Avenue on their way to Morton Avenue, Smith said on Twitter.
Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins said in a press briefing that no arrests were made. He urged people to avoid the area for the remainder of the night.
"We are seeing individuals who are using that peaceful and non-violent cover to engage in chaos and violent behaviors. It's extraordinarily difficult for us to identify who those individuals are, and to isolate those individuals because they are embedded in the crowd," Hawkins said.
