Madison VanDenburg mania was in full effect across the Capital Region on Sunday.

The Cohoes native and Shaker High School student was a finalist in the latest "American Idol" competition. On Sunday night's finale, VanDenburg took third place.

Shaker High School students held a watch party for their fellow student. Community members both young and old, cheered on for the bright star.

It’s been quite a journey for VanDenburg, and she has taken her hometown along for the ride. That hard work landed her a top spot on the show and inspired her classmates in the process. 

"I think it shows all of us we can obtain our dreams and think outside the box," said a student fan club organizer.
