Officially passing her one-year anniversary with the Spectrum News Capital Region team, Mercedes Williams made the move from a four-year stint with NY1 to head just a few hours north to historic Center Square. As a reporter, Mercedes’ inspiration comes from the ability to connect and meet with everyone involved with and making a difference in her community. While it’s not a light undertaking, Mercedes prioritizes her time to learn as much about the fabric of her community as possible.

Throughout Mercedes’ career, she’s worked behind the scenes helping cover everything from crime to major political breaking news, including President Donald Trump’s election and the pope's first U.S visit. Since joining the Capital Region team, Mercedes has been excited to transition from a large market like NYC, allowing herself to focus on the more detailed stories in smaller communities and amplifying the voices of members who otherwise wouldn’t be heard.

When not at the newsdesk, Mercedes is usually out and about exploring her new home. In the warmer months, it’s a safe bet that you can find her near and around Washington Square Park, enjoying all of the festivals, concerts, and parades the area has to offer. More so, Mercedes is a passionate music lover, so don’t be surprised if you run in to her at one of the various karaoke bars across the Capital Region!
