Mercedes Williams is a reporter and the co-anchor for our weekend morning show.
She’s been with the Spectrum News 1 family since 2016 starting out as a photographer for our sister station NY1 before taking the role of reporter at our Capital Region station.
Since joining the Upstate Regional team, Mercedes has been excited to transition from a large market like NYC, allowing herself to focus on the more detailed stories in smaller communities and amplifying the voices of members who otherwise wouldn’t be heard.
During her time here, she has covered a wide range of stories from the North Country to the South End of Albany. She dedicates a part of her reporting to social justice and equality issues involving the BIPOC community. During the summer of 2020 following George Floyd’s murder, she was out in the streets reporting on nearly every rally and demonstration. She also spearheaded coverage of an hour-long special on the one year memorial of George Floyd’s death.
When not reporting or anchoring, Mercedes loves to spend some of her free time sewing. You may have seen her wearing some of those designs on air.
In the warmer months, it’s a safe bet that you can find her near and around Albany’s Washington Park, enjoying all of the festivals, concerts, and parades the area has to offer. Mercedes is also a passionate music lover, so don’t be surprised if you run in to her at your local karaoke bar.
