BRUSWICK, N.Y. — Three months after two state troopers were seriously injured by an alleged drunk driver, the community is coming together to raise money to help with their recovery.

Back in March, troopers Brent Karow and Shane Swartz were hit by a car as they helped a tow truck near exit eight on I-90.

Both men were hurt badly and are now recovering.

Saturday in Brunswick, a fundraiser was held at the girl's softball field with a game people could pay to play in.

Organizers say all of the money raised will go to the troopers.

Trooper Swartz was there for the fundraiser.

“I’m happy to see the community and members that I work with,” said Swartz.

“He’s got an indomitable spirit and his recovery is a testament of that and it great to see the community,” said Jake Ashby, (R) Assembly – Castleton. “We're all back in behind him.”

State Police say Christopher Neumann is the man charged with crashing into troopers Karow and Swartz. He's facing vehicular assault and DWI charges.
