The Cohoes school district's assistant superintendent is resigning after allegedly being assaulted at the district's headquarters on Page Avenue.
On April 16, the district's facilities director, James Stapleton, confronted Assistant Superintendent Dan Martinelli over the movement of school equipment, Martinelli alleged. Martinelli says that's when Stapleton punched him in the face and forcefully pushed him into a closet, causing him to hit his head, neck and back on metal shelving.
Stapleton has been charged with assault and harassment, according to court documents. He is also resigning from his position in the district.
Superintendent Peggy O'Shea says while she cannot comment on specific personnel matters, the district has zero tolerance for violence. She added the district investigates all complaints of workplace violence and takes appropriate actions based on the findings.
