The best color of the season is expected this weekend across the Adirondacks, Catskills, Greens, Whites and most of Maine.
I've been searching for the best way to describe how fast the leaves have changed across upstate New York in the past week and I think this scene from the classic movie Anchorman sums it up best.

Not only are we seeing peak color in the Adirondacks and Catskills, but the color is super vibrant thanks to the two-week stretch of completely dry weather we saw before Wednesday's heavy rainfall. This past weekend's weather was perfect hiking weather, so along with thousands of others I ventured to the Adirondacks.
On Saturday, I hiked three smaller mountains in the Tupper Lake region. Along with the blog cover photo, the photo above was taken from the fire tower on Mount Arab.
This was my first time in the Tupper Lake region and it definitely made an impression on me. If you're looking to avoid some of the crowds that the High Peaks region sees on the weekend, I highly recommend visiting Tupper Lake this weekend.
Sunday brought on the High Peaks region and three short hikes to lower mountain tops. In my opinion, the best foliage views come from the lower mountains rather than the higher ones. Dark skies made for a nice contrast with the peak color.
The Catskills are another place that went from about 50 percent color to pretty much peak. This weekend will feature the best of the best in fall color.
If hiking is my favorite thing to do this time of the year, golf is my second favorite. About 50 percent color change has taken place south of Saratoga Springs all the way into the lower Hudson Valley.
Speaking of the lower Hudson Valley, color is finally beginning to pop in this part of the state. Minnewaska State Park is a gem this time of the year.
Pretty views can be had in Central New York as well with 40 to 60 percent change.
Amazing colors are being reported in the Finger Lakes region this week, and it'll only get better over the next couple of weeks!
There really wasn't much color to report on last week in western New York, but that's not the case this week!

Last but certainly not least, let's talk about New England foliage. Peak color is being seen across much of Maine along with the White and Green Mountains.
You can't go wrong with a scenic drive or hike this weekend in Vermont!
The White Mountains are putting on a show right now as well. I'm going to try hard to hike up there next week when I'm on vacation.
A weak disturbance will produce a few hit-and-miss showers Saturday afternoon north of I-90, but I wouldn't let that deter you from your outdoor plans. Sunday will feature dry, cool weather statewide.
As always, we love seeing foliage photos from your fall adventures. Feel free to share them with us on social media or email them to us here!
