Chris Olave could have gone through this entire process a year ago and likely been in a similar position as an expected 1st round pick.
Instead, Olave surprised many by deciding to return to Ohio State for his senior season.
"I came back for my senior year most importantly I got my degree," Olave explained at the NFL Combine in early March. "I graduated in December 2021. And I feel like I competed and got a lot better at the weaknesses I wanted to improve on and turn those into strengths. I feel like I'm a more complete player and even better person."
Olave leaves the Buckeyes as one of the program's best WRs ever. His 35 career receiving touchdowns are the most in school history. He ranks third all-time with 176 receptions. Olave's 2,711 receiving yards are fifth-most ever.
He capped his time in Columbus with 2nd team All-American honors this past fall.
Olave measures out well when looking towards the pro game, standing 6 feet tall and 187 lbs.
He ran a 4.39 second 40 yard dash at the Combine, pairing that with great ball skills and hands.
Olave also is already very deep in the studying aspect of his craft as well.
"I'm looking at hips," Olave said. "I'm looking at technique. What kind of releases they're going to give me. How they play against certain guys. How they play against fast guys. How they play against bigger guys. Just the little things. What they do at the line of scrimmage and if they're off coverage. I look at all the little things to let me get an advantage on Saturdays."
Olave is part of the conversation as one of the best WRs in the class, expected to be a mid-to-late 1st round pick.
