We’ve heard a lot about how this wide receiver draft class doesn’t have the top-end talent of others recently. That means a potential smaller role to start even for higher picks. That’s no problem for Cincinnati’s Tyler Scott, whose character shined when explaining how he handled that type of situation with the Bearcats.

“For me it was just understanding my role and understanding that it just may not be my time yet,” said Scott. “Realizing that and being able to accept that. For me it was just being reliable whenever my name was called on. I had games my sophomore year when it was one catch, one touchdown. That was all we needed from me. I’m not a person that’s going to say, ‘man I need more catches. I need more touches.’ At the end of the day I was on special teams heavy, made my contributions here and there when I was needed and ultimately made it successful.”

That sophomore year for Scott did see him do a lot with a little, with 520 receiving yards on just 30 receptions, scoring five touchdowns.

Things expanded this past season, reeling in 54 grabs for nearly 900 yards and nine TDs.

What Scott lacks in size, standing 5’10” and 177 lbs., he makes up for with speed, running an unofficial 4.32 40 at his Pro Day after a 4.44 time at the NFL Combine.

They’re wheels that come from a track background with a focus on the gridiron.

“Football, you got to learn how to get to top speed fast,” said Scott. “So one thing I really focused on when I was in high school was indoor track. I got to run it finally my senior year. We got a new coach and he got us into indoor track. My main focus was the 60 and just really learning how to get out. That’s the biggest thing. Learning how to get out and get to top speed fast because in football that’s the biggest thing. Being able to get to top speed fast is the big key that I think is hard for track athletes, especially because you get the chance to build up. 200 meter dash you get a chance to build up. 100 meter dash you get a chance to build up.”

Scott definitely falls into the bucket of wideouts expected to be selected sometime on Day 2 of the draft.
