1. DOCCS identifies 15 prison workers involved in Mid-State inmate death investigation

The New York state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision identified 15 people of interest who they said are involved in the investigation into the death of an inmate at Mid-State Correctional Facility in Oneida County earlier this month, the department announced Wednesday.

2. Schumer, Jeffries both say U.S. defense secretary should be fired over Signal group chat

Sen. Chuck Schumer joined his leadership counterpart in the House, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, in urging Defense Sec. Pete Hegseth to be fired following the texting of sensitive plans for a military strike against Yemen's Houthis to a group chat that included a journalist.

3. 2 dead in latest village of Colonie blaze, fire officials say

A mother and son were killed in a single-family home fire that occurred around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in Colonie, according to police. 

4. New York business owners, analysts discuss rise in entrepreneurship

The U.S. Department of the Treasury says entrepreneurship continues to increase, and Empire State Development says small businesses make up 98% of New York State businesses and employ 40% of New York’s private sector workforce.

5. New York Power Authority takes over Fort Edward solar project

A New York Power Authority corporation will build a 20-megawatt facility covering approximately 150 acres in the area, the governor's office said.

6. Wall Street bonuses hit record high of $47.5 billion in 2024, state comptroller says

Wall Street bonuses reached a record $47.5 billion in 2024, its first major increase since the COVID-19 pandemic highs, according to a report released Wednesday by state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.
