From outdated food pyramids to the flood of online diet trends, nutrition advice has never been more confusing. But one expert is cutting through the noise — starting with his own family. Dr. Alex Ford, a registered dietitian and family medicine physician, believes that combating misinformation is critical.
2. SUNY Canton offering microcredential for sports officiating
For several years now, New York has been looking for more referees, umpires and officials for youth and high school sporting events. Some say the shortage is a crisis. However, a North Country college is offering a special class in hopes of drawing more people onto the field.
3. New York AG recommending 23AndMe customers delete data
New York Attorney General Letitia James is recommending 23AndMe customers contact the company to delete their data. This weekend, the San Francisco-based genetic testing company announced this weekend that it has declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy and announced plans to sell its assets. Sunday’s filing reported total debts of more than $214.7 million as of the end of last year.
4. New York State Parks hiring lifeguards
There are 1,100 lifeguard positions available at 70 beaches and pools across the state, according to the parks department. Starting pay isn't bad.
5. 5 high-level CDC officials leaving in latest turmoil for public health agency
The departures were announced at a meeting of agency senior leaders. The Atlanta-based CDC has two dozen centers and offices. The heads of five of them are stepping down, and that follows three other departures in recent weeks. This means close to a third of the agency's top management is leaving or left recently.
6. Israel releases Oscar-winning Palestinian director after he was attacked by West Bank settlers
Hamdan Ballal and the other directors of "No Other Land," which looks at the struggles of living under Israeli occupation, had mounted the stage at the 97th Academy Awards in Los Angeles earlier this month when it won the award for best documentary film. Ballal and two other Palestinians detained with him were released Tuesday afternoon from a police station in the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba.

Nurses Middle College to close at end of school year
The Board of Trustees at Nurses Middle College voted Monday to close the school at the end of this school year due to declining enrollment. Right now, only 70 students are enrolled in ninth and 10th grades.
