1. Plug Power to lay off 261 employees across the Capital Region

Plug Plower, which develops hydrogen fuel cell systems to replace conventional batteries in equipment and vehicles, is planning to lay off workers in the Capital Region. According to a WARN notice on the New York state Department of Labor's website, 261 employees will be impacted.

2. CDTA begins new fare structure in Warren County

The Capital District Transportation Authority begins its new fare structure in Warren County Tuesday. It will be aligning its fares with the rest of the transit network. 

3. Speaker Johnson 'trying to figure out some creative role' for Stefanik in House GOP leadership after ambassador post withdrawal

House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters Tuesday that Republicans are looking for what kind of future Rep. Elise Stefanik can bring to the House leadership now that she won’t be serving as President Donald Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations. Her most recent leadrship role has already been filled.

4. Ulster County executive signs order on protection of transgender people

Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger signed an executive order on the protection of transgender people. Metzger said this is due to concerns about rhetoric and actions at the federal level targeting the transgender community. 

5. N.Y. attorney general leads coalition suing Trump administration over federal cuts to state health funding

New York Attorney General Letitia James and 22 other states and the District of Columbia filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the Trump administration over abruptly cutting billions of dollars in state health funding. These cuts come as part of a plan announced last week by the Trump White House to pull back $11.4 billion in COVID-19-related funds for local public health departments and other organizations across the country.

6. Chuck Schumer says he's taking the fight over federal spending to Trump country

The Senate’s top Democrat is no stranger to political maneuvering. But his latest act — a tightly choreographed blitz through Republican-held districts — signals a sharpened strategy: take the fight over federal spending directly into Trump country, and force Republicans to own the response.
