High pressure remains in control of our weather today as we close out the workweek. Sunny skies will warm much of central North Carolina into the mid 70s to low 80s. A cold front will look to enter the area early Saturday so clouds will not build in until Saturday morning. Thus, skies will remain clear tonight and overnight allowing lows to fall into the lower 50s.

Saturday will start off chilly, but southerly winds help warm temperatures quickly through the day. Highs will be warmer tomorrow in the mid 80s for many. Clouds will grow in through the back half of our Saturday but rain is unlikely to impact the first half of our weekend. The cold front will stall over the area late Saturday and with a higher amount of moisture available rain becomes more likely Sunday. Expect isolated to scattered showers Sunday and due to the clouds and rain highs will max in the 70s.
We'll keep a low rain chance in place through the first half of the week. Another cold front will slide through the state and knock temperatures down into the 60s Thursday. Thursday is the opening day for the North Carolina State Fair. Expect dry and sunny conditions with a chilly start in the morning and highs in the upper 60s.
TROPICAL UPDATE
Subtropical Storm Melissa formed earlier today from the nor'easter southeast of New England. The nor'easter upgraded to a subtropical storm during the National Hurricane Center's midday update. Coastal areas along the New England region like Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard will deal with wind gusts to 50 mph, heavy rain and minor coastal flooding. Melissa is expected to move northeast through the weekend away from the United States and gradually weaken.
