The Brookstown District at BB&T Ballpark was planned to be a mix of apartments, offices and retail.

Mayor Allen Joines said the developer backed out due to financial concerns.

“There was a big retaining wall that was, I think it was almost $2 million just for the retaining wall work in there and so adding those costs in it just kind of pushed it out of feasibility and the buyers were a little reticent to move forward with the uncertainty of the roadwork,” said Joines.

But, Joines said the property owner is looking for new developers to take over the project.

The new luxury apartment project is expected to be completed by 2021.
