Winter weather kept some people home last weekend, so we put together a list of things happening around North Carolina on this holiday weekend.

There are also plenty of ways to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

MLK Parade in High Point

A Martin Luther King Jr. parade is kicking off in High Point at 2 p.m. Monday.

The celebration, presented by the Carl Chavis YMCA, will honor King's legacy with marching bands, step teams, floats, bikers and more.

Lineup begins at 12:30 p.m. at Green and South Main Street, and the parade will start at West High and South Main Street. The route ends at Qubein Avenue and North Main Street.

31st Annual MLK Holiday Celebration

If you're in the Charlotte area, head to the Crown Ballroom at the Charlotte Convention Center to honor Martin Luther King Jr. 

Monday's celebration will include keynote speaker Ricky Price, founder and president of Game Ready Skills and Development Training, LLC. Price is an All-ACC performer and a 2-time ACC regular season champion.

"His inspiring talk will be followed by prayer, music and dance. You don’t want to miss this uplifting celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. King," said the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, which is hosting the event.

All proceeds from the celebration will support the McCrorey YMCA in providing programming to youth and families throughout the northeast corridor. 

The event starts at 8 a.m. and doors open at 7:15 a.m. Get tickets here.

The MLK Parade in Fayetteville

If you're in Cumberland County, honor Martin Luther King Jr. with a parade in Downtown Fayeteville on Saturday. The parade starts at 10 a.m. 

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet is happening in Fayetteville on Feb. 22.

Next month, there will be a banquet in King's honor with keynote speaker Councilman Malik Davis. The banquet is happening Feb. 22.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration in Ashe County

Celebrate King in a community celebration Monday evening in Ashe County. The event starts at 7 p.m. at the Ashe Arts Center and is free to the public. 

"The celebration will highlight the message of Dr. King and his teachings of peace, unity and equality in our society. The program will include excerpts from letters and writings of Dr. King as well as guest artist Crys Matthews," event organizers said. 

Matthews is described as an award-winning social justice music maker. 

Skate the Square DJ Night: Neon 90s

If you're a '90s kid, this one is for you.

Dress in your '90s gear to skate the night away at the Fenton Square by Paragon Theaters in Cary Friday. It's going to a neon-lit, throwback celebration in a winter wonderland. 

"From the moment you step onto the ice, you’ll be transported back to the vibrant and funky world of the 90s, where glow sticks and classic beats reign supreme!" event organizers said.

The skating party starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey

The circus is coming to town! Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey's "greatest show on Earth" will be at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte Jan. 17-19. Shows includes a flying trapeze, the world's tallest unicycle, a human rocket, stunt bikes and more. 

From aerialists to comedians, see the performers here.

Event organizers said the show offers something for all ages. 

"From gravity-defying stunts to breathtaking acrobatics, every Ringling show is packed with jaw-dropping acts that will leave everyone on the edge of their seats," event organizers said.

If you can't make the Charlotte show, performers will be in Fayetteville from March 7 to March 9.

Winter at Whitewater

Walk along the winter trail, go ice skating, play ice hockey, enjoy a 3-course meal or do it all at the Whitewater Center in Charlotte. 

The winter trail, featuring lights and play structures, is illuminated at night and crosses two suspension bridges. It has obstacles and play areas, and is open through mid-February.

"Experience WildwoodsOff LeashIce Skating, and the Canyon Zips (North and South Rim Zips) into the evening. These activities will be lighted to enjoy after the sun goes down," Whitewater Center officials said. 

Wildwoods is the center's new playground area that features dozens of climbing and discovery elements, with a tree house village and balance bikes for kids. 

The center offers ice skating on a converted pond during the winter. Skate up to the on-ice Airstream to get a hot or cold drink. 

If you enjoy being on the ice, the center also has cask curling that is accessed with an ice skating pass.

The Life & Art of Charles M Schulz

Explore the life of cartoonist Charles Monroe Schulz, who created the "Peanuts" comic strip. The exhibit is open this weekend in Alamance County.

"With Snoopy, Charlie Brown, and the rest of the lovable Peanuts Gang, Schulz explored the emotional territory of friendship, disappointment, faith, and tolerance. He was an artist and a storyteller who transformed images of everyday life into art that captured the humor, vulnerability, and dignity of the human spirit," the event website states.

The Life & Art of Charles M. Schulz is an exhibit that explores Schulz's personal history and his role as the inspiration behind "Peanuts."

The exhibit will be available through Jan. 17 at Alamance Arts. Click here for exhibit hours and tickets. Children under age 5 are free.

The Rink at Red Hat Amphitheater

Grab a pair of ice skates and twirl around in a winter wonderland at the Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh. The amphitheater transformed into an ice skating rink, with natural ice, where guests can also see a view of the Raleigh skyline.
